Recently discovered work of Edwin
Howland Blashfield, late 19th Century--early 20th Century muralist. The
work remains to be authenticated, and is in need of restoration, as
some poorly executed attempts at the same may have damaged parts of the
original, according to the current owner. The owner has told MOBAAC the
painting may have once belonged to sugar-refining magnate James H. Post
or his descendants.

Besides his prominent public
murals, such as the one gracing the ceiling of one of the buildings of
the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., Blashfield undertook
commissions for installation in private residences, and the above may
have been an example of such a commission.

Detail of newly discovered work:
quintessential Blashfield.
