CHARLES JOEL DUVEEN Charles Joel Duveen, who went by the
trade names of C.J. Charles and Charles of London, was the
second son of twelve brothers and
sisters born to Joel Joseph Duveen (later, Sir Joseph Joel
Duveen),
co-founder of Duveen Brothers,
and his wife, Rosetta Duveen. Born in 1871, Charles Duveen died in 1940
after an
illustrious career as an interior decorator, in which capacity he often
imported
from the castles and manors of England entire rooms for the
installation and enjoyment of his clients in America. Duveen is the
author of, among other books and articles, Elizabethan
Interiors (1911). He married
Anna Kohler in 1919, and the couple had one son, Charles Joel Duveen,
Jr. In 1941, Charles Jr. married Anneta Applebaum, featured on this
website as the artist, Anneta Duveen, and
the couple had three children.
