FM station threatened
Radio Ramaroshan, the only FM in the district
was threatened to capture by the CPN-Maoist cadres on 30 March at
Achham, located at a far western region of Nepal
.
According
to the Bed Prakash Timalsina, president of Federation of Nepali
Journalists (FNJ) Achham Chapter, while speaking at an electoral mass
meeting at Janali Bandali Maoist
leader Jhankar Bahadur Rawal threatened to seize the radio station.
Then Maoists cadres surrounded the FM transmission center at Thulasain,
said Timalsina. Maoists are threatening the radio for broadcasting news
against them.
However, they ray way when a
police team reached the site to provide the security.
FNJ
has condemned the attack on media and urged the concerned group not to
hider the press freedom and freedom of expression and to be aware about
the right to information. It also urged the government to punish the
guilty and asked to be more serous to provide sufficient security to
media person at the time of CA election.
