JOURNALISTS ATTACKED BY GOVERNMENT POLICE

Thakur, member of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Rautahat
chapter, Arun Yadav of Pratik Daily, Ramgir Mukhiya of Matribhumi Daily
and Dinesh Sah of NTV were attacked by the police personal of Armed
Police Force on 26 February at Gaur,
Rautahat district, located at a central region of Nepal
.
According
to Prem Chandra Jha, president of FNJ, Rautahat chapter, journalists
with Thakur were attacked while they were covering news about police
personal getting inside the house of locals and breaking the belongings
without any reason. Thakur himself said that police personal attacked
them with the wooden stick and police helmet. Thakur received injuries
on his leg, hand and body, Yadav and Mukhiya on their head and Sah on
his hand, due to the attack. They are having treatment at Gaur Hospital
. At the interference police damaged mobile phone, camera and watch of
Thakur, camera of Dinesh Sah and mobile of Yadav.
FNJ
has condemned the attack on media persons by security personnel and
very much concerned about the growing threats on journalists from every
side. It said that it is very painful that journalists are receiving
threats and attacks time an again by personnel involved in security of
the nation. FNJ urged the government authorities not to hinder media
person to precede their professional duties and to punish security
personnel involved in the action. It also asked the government to be
more serious to provide sufficient security to media person.
