Journalist Attacked
Manoj Sah, freelancer journalist linked with Maoist
allied Revolutionary Journalist Association, was attacked by a dozen of
awful people on 17 January near Chamar Area of Janakpur, an eastern
city of Nepal .
According
to Ashok Rauniyar, president of Federation of Nepali Journalists
Dhanusha chapter, Sah was attacked while he was returning home from his
office. Sah was attacked by a group with Khukuri (a sharp weapon) and
sustained serious injuries on head and wrists. Assailants attacked on
his wrists saying "aren't you write news with these hands?" Now Sah is
having operation in Teaching Hospital at capital city Kathmandu .
Rauniyar
said that few days back Sah was threatened not to write news about
Janaki Temple and the reason for his attacked is the news published on
a local daily Bishwojagaran. Sah has filed
complain over the priest Ramtapeshwor Das Sah as an offender and one of
the culprit is under police control.
FNJ
condemns such attacks on the media persons by different groups. Attacks
on media person have increased and government is failed to provide
security to them. The trend of attack on journalists in recent days
shows that the personal security of journalists is in most danger. For
this reason, FNJ urges government to be more serious on the security of
media person and take the strong action to the culprit.
