HERE'S
A SAMPLE LETTER TO SEND TO NEWSPAPERS IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE AP STORY
THEY RUN!
August 7, 2007
Dear Friends at The Star:
I would caution you against using an AP report on the JFK bombing plot
in the next edition of your paper.
The lead of the story concentrates on the government's case through a
supposedly 'confidential' report' made available to AP. This
information was provided by the government, I believe, to prejudice
future juries while at the same time setting up a situation in which
Iran is indirectly accused of assisting in the plot.
Remember, the plot was a STING operation, and never really existed
outside the government's drawing board.
Governments do try to manipulate the press. I believe newspapermen must
be aware of such attempts.
Here is the lead:
"PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad - A judge Monday ordered three men extradited
to the U.S. to face charges in an alleged plot to attack New York's
John F. Kennedy International Airport, and a confidential U.S. document
said they planned to seek help from Iran."
The story goes on by quoting transcripts of tapes that mention the plot
in connection with Iran.
While some of the reporting further down is quite useful, the
"confidential" government report is merely planted to skew public
opinion in certain directions. I believe AP stories must be watched
carefully for such biases, which often occur in their stories. Their
stories should not be printed indiscriminately, and when poor stories
are provided to subscribers, subscribers should complain. You are
paying money for these shill stories. You should expect better!
The manipulation of the US government and complicity of the reporter
should be obvious in this instance.
Thank you for listening to my plea.
Kindest regards,
Peter Duveen
